Bleh. Take my review of Jelly and invert it, and you pretty much have my experience at The Egg and I. Rewind back a few months: I had been trying to find good Eggs Benny since my arrival in Denver and was thinking that if a place had "egg" in the name, it probably had to be pretty proficient in means of preparing eggs. This was not the case, at least as far as my experience went. I went with my boyfriend a little after 10 o'clock on a Tuesday morning. The place was pretty busy, so I was hopeful that I might finally find a commendable eggy breakfast. We were seated quickly by a lukewarm hostess, and five minutes or so later a frowny waitress showed up. It was very clear that this lady did not want to be working. It took about 20 minutes to get our order (I got the Benedict, my boyfriend got French toast). Both our entrees were cold. The eggs on the Benny were overcooked, the English muffin was hard as a rock, the Hollandaise was grossly thick and tasted burnt and salty. There were a few blackened cresents scattered on the plate which I think were supposed to be breakfast potatoes of some kind. I gave it the old college try but they hurt my teeth. I debated sending the whole thing back, but didn't. I hate being a drama queen, and I considered that the waitress might snarl and throw my plate against the wall if I asked anything of her. The prices were outrageous considering quality of the scant servings of food. It looks like many other yelpers have had good, or at least decent, meals there, but I saw nothing deserving of merit during my one visit. I don't know if the hostess, waitress, and cook were all having an off day or what, but have not gone back since, nor do I plan to.

The server hates his job and life. I could have made it better my self at home. Coffee did not taste fresh.

Very consistent, very nice staff. Great breakfast no matter what you order. I typically stay very traditional when it comes to breakfast, eggs-over easy, bacon, toast... blah blah blah... But other I have been with have ordered a variety of meals and they all enjoyed them. This is a good restaurant. Usually busy though.

I have never been to an Egg and I so I was really excited when my boyfriend offered for us to go. I have to say this was one of the best breakfasts I've ever had in my entire life. I got the flapper which includes a HUGE whole wheat pancake, eggs and a choice of either sausage patties or bacon. The pancake was so flavorful and fluffy, the eggs were cooked to perfection and the sausage patties were tasty too. Our waitress was AWESOME, very attentive and friendly. All in all a great experience and I am definitely heading back here for some breakfast sometime in the near future!

We discovered this place a little while ago, and now it is a family tradition to eat there every Sunday. Everything we have tried so far has been delicious. The Pancakes and French Toast are amazing. They have a huge menu and I want to try everything. I have to say that their Biscuits and Gravy needs a lot of work - it's bland and doughy. The iced coffee is very fresh and better than anything from Starbucks.

    Good food. Coffee was cold.

Went to brunch on a Sunday morning. It was packed, but were were amazed at how quickly we got in. Staff was friendly and good...franchisee was there working. My french toast was good (my friends "Athena" egg scramble looked awesome). 4 starts just because it's so similar to every breakfast "chain" restaurant. *Nice on Sunday since the farmer's market was there.

Good solid breakfast. Nothing mind blowing but the flavors were good, the service was good and my buddy I went with said the franchisee is always there working which means consistency in my book. Plus the tattered cover is right next door.

If you want basic breakfast food, then this is your place. I am looking for something a little more interesting. I was unimpressed - nothing bad about it, just boring. I'll go to Toast, or The Original Pancake House instead.

Great casual place for brunch. Great service and good quality food. I love their omelettes.

Checked this place out twice. 1st experience not so great, second one much better. I am gluten free and am used to ordering the one or two items that I can have. They offer a gf menu with quite a few selections and they all say served with ranch potatoes. I ordered my selection, and it came with no potatoes. When I told my server he said that no, it doesn't come with it. Well why does it say all gf selections do on the menu then? I told him to bring me a side, and got charged another $4. Great. $14 for two eggs bacon and a side of potatoes that were supposed to be free. A month or so later my 11 year old wanted to go. I made sure I ordered a skillet so I wouldn't have to pay extra for potatoes, and it was fantastic. My sons portion was super small for a kids meal. It was a cup of fruit and half a quesadilla. The server was nice and ordered another quesadilla for him for only $2 more. So pricey yes. Servers were nice, but the original guy needed to learn his menus.

This chain holds a dear place in my heart because it was the first decent breakfast I had when we were here for a frenzied home search. I appreciate their pitcher service for both coffee and tea. Their specialty scrambles are delicious, be they healthy offerings like the Athena Scramble, or the indulgent dishes like the Patriotic Waffle and Raisin French Toast. Service here has been mostly great, so I'll let the food stand on its own merits. I haven't ventured in during lunch hours, so I have no idea how their lunch offerings are, and honestly I don't care. If you want an awesome breakfast, skip Denny's (mostly just because it's Denny's, but also) because the breakfast plates here ROCK!!

First time here. Food is good. Ambience is country-charming. Pretty bustling. Our waiter Julio is good and friendly. Front reception can offer more smile to welcome guests; this should be an easy improvement goal that can make a big difference as guests walk in. We'll be back!

This is from a visit a few months ago. It's hard for me to say this but I prefer IHOP over Egg & I. Nothing here was amazing. We were warmly greeted and sat immediately. That's where it ended. For a Sunday morning, most breakfast places like Snooze or Toast are on a half hour wait. This place was half empty which should have been the sign. Service was robotic and slow and the food was nothing to rave about. I most likely won't be back.

Loved our experience. I ordered the Mediterranean frittata. He ordered the Greek omelette. Both were outstanding. His came with potatoes. Mine fruit. Both with English muffins. Best part? When you order coffee you are left the coffee pot at your table. I asked also for an ice tea with lemon - he left me the pitcher. It's like he knew me my whole life ha! HUGE BONUS POINTS! Loved it will be back.

The service is good and so are the prices. You get what you pay for though and the food quality is just okay. I only live a few minutes away, but I will choose to go to Wild Eggs or Cafe Terracotta if I can.

This was one of the most incredible breakfast places I have been too. Our waitress, Patti, was beyond friendly and accommodating to our table. I ordered the fresh fruit and yogurt with granola order and she went as far as asking what fruit I don't like so she came make sure they leave them out. The fruit was fresh and delicious and the yogurt and granola was just as good. I highly recommend this place and if you can ask, ask for Patti.

I think this place is not good at all (because the service.) 1 thing I like here is the pancakes. The other thing I don't like is a lot of things that are sticky are stuck together and is hard to eat because there all clumped together and big.

  • Courtney P.

I really liked this location! The decor was cute, the food was really good (I had the greek frittata... highly recommend), and we were in and out of there in 30 minutes, which I feel is key during the work week. The service was friendly and quick, and the owner of this location was there working and greeting everyone, which I felt was a nice touch.

Love this place. Best place for breakfast ever and food is always great! Arizona Turkey sandwich is great for lunch and you can't go wrong with anything for breakfast.

The best service ever!! The blonde girl. That works up front named Kylie, is always so happy and friendly

This is one of my staples, especially in warm weather. Their outdoor seating area is actually part of the sidewalk system, so my dogs can be right there with me in the shade. For a bit, I can believe I'm in Europe, which is so much more civilized concerning well behaved pets. On Sundays, we go to the Farmer's Market to buy our week's produce. The staff is friendly and the service efficient, owing in no small part to Zach's good management. It does get busy mid-day on weekends, so arriving early is a good technique.

Exceptional breakfast ! Belgium waffles are to die for! Apple bacon great! Waitress Tia was outstanding!

Service in this restaurant is the worst ever! We were here a month or so ago, and thought server had a bad day then. Well, we got her again! We waited 20 min before she took our order, waited another 5 minutes for the cream for my husband's coffee, and another 20 minutes for our food to come. Other tables who sat after us got their food before us. What's up with that?! Is it worth the aggravation to come back a 3rd time. I think NOT! Last time today and we're looking for another breakfast restaurant. P.S. When this place 1st opened, they had good service. Now, Denny's (yuck!) and IHOP have better service.

Food was good! So why only 1 star? We walked in and was greeted by a hostess who acted like we were an inconvenience to her morning. She proceeded to wonder around leaving the waiters to seat people. The second hostess was even worse. Looked like a scolded toddler in time out. She never said one word to anyone checking out or entering. Definitely not welcoming. We were proud of a waitress for stepping up and telling one to get back to her station and do her job. The waiter was attentive but zero warmth, acted like he'd rather be elsewhere. The food was good. Turkey sausages were very tasty. The green chili is wonderful. Eggs cooked to perfection. But the workers leave a bad taste...

Solid classic breakfast- similar to Denny's or Pancake House. Good value. Nothing unique.

Breakfast burrito is the only thing I order here. Not having to wait too long for a seat is a plus.

I would like to start off by saying I never leave reviews before visiting a place multiple times to give it a fair review. Having said that this place is one of the better breakfast/lunch places in Highlands Ranch. The prices are fair, food is great and the menu has plenty of items to choose from. I have also never had to wait more than 10 minutes to be seated no matter what time of day I have gone. The reason it gets four stars is because a couple of times I have had complaints about the hostess as other people I have. They can have an uppity attitude and seem to be inconvenienced when you arrive but the waiters and waitresses attitudes make up for it. I would definitely recommend giving this place a shot.

Great Breakfast place.....I've been to other Egg and I's before and this one was right on PAR. Nothing mindblowing, just a good breakfast in an ever more competitive Breakfast savvy marketplace. One item of note was the Corned Beef Hash that was billed as being special homemade by the waitress.....was actually very similar to Hormel Canned Hash....nothing special at all...as compared to D&J's or Sunrise Sunset.

The food was good. We were seated very quickly and our drink and food order was taken promptly. Food came out hot and in a reasonable time frame. Only complaint was the servers were playing around a lot and they were alway on there phones.

Like all Egg & I Restaurants: You wait entirely too long in a lobby that's far too small so that you can eventually be seated at moderately clean table where an impersonal server can rush you to order. The food is okay. The coffee is weak. The service is mediocre. And when it's all done, you get rushed out the door (after fighting your way through the crowd in the foyer). After sampling some of the great brunch places this area has to offer, I'll skip this place from here forward.

7/16/2013 Today we walked in because we had seen this place and we were looking forward to a great breakfast. But! when we walked in the waitress actually looked us up and down and then walked us to our table. Bill and I looked at each other like, what the heck? We watched to see if maybe she was in a bad mood and then the next customer walked in wearing a suit and she was all smiles and "welcomes." We got up and left. I guess our money was not a good as other customers. If she had been in a bad mood I would have been ok because it happens but she obviously didn't like us so we won't be back.

Second favorite place for breakfast other than Pierre Michel. My little girl loves the Mickey Mouse shaped pancakes.

I have had several business meeting breakfasts here. All have met my expectations. Quick coffee. A tasty breakfast. (Especially the Benedict's). It isn't fancy but it is a good value and a decent place to have an early meeting.

Went looking for this place on a recommendation and the food was pretty good. I got the crab cake eggs benedict and my brother got the philly cheesesteak eggs benedict. We traded one egg each. His was really delicious. I liked it a lot more than mine. MIne had the english muffin separate which I thought was rather weird. But the poached eggs were perfect and broke when I sliced into it. My sister liked her strawberry waffles, whereas my cousin said their waffles were soggy. Mixed reviews overall, but I liked it enough that I'd come back for some breakfast... and I'm not even a fan of breakfast generally.

This place is always insanely busy and has a welcoming atmosphere! I've always had great service and their stuffed french toast is perfection! My only wish is that they were a little more expeditious with their service!

We went to this Egg and I and waited for entirely too long to get a seat as we watched others come in after us and be seated before us (no they didn't call ahead) we think they forgot us. Once seated with a toddler we had to ask them for a high chair after they confirmed if we needed one. Food was good but the waitress stopped by once to give us a check and we has asked for refills on water twice and never got them. She then proceeded to take our plates before we were finished eating! I was literally taking a bite and she grabbed the plate from under me! The owner was pleasant but they need to work on hospitality with employees all around. I'd recommend the Egg and I off of Bellview and Santa Fe if you have a choice they at least seat you on a first come bases and come by to check in.

Over 15 years ago when I used to travel to Denver from Austin for work, I would love going to the Egg and I in Aurora (I think it may have been the only one of these open at that time?). I would love their hot chocolate (back then I didn't drink coffee, now I drink what I consider grown up hot chocolates--lattes).and breakfast options. I was so happy when this one opened up in Highlands Ranch. We have gone several times and have enjoyed going each time. I still love getting their hot chocolates.

I went here once on a weekday with my 1.5 year old after his doctor's appointment. I asked about good vegetarian options and after the gushing over the eggs benedict, I decided to order that. It was a big womp womp. The green onions really threw off the flavor of the whole thing. It was definitely a fresh dish, but the taste was not at all to my liking. I just ate the English muffin and left everything else. Pretty disappointing. My son's pancake was just meh. I don't think I'll be going back.

Not much to say except that the coffee and main dish I order is always 5 stars(Apple Cinnamon Granola Pancake). The service is always excellent too. The servers and hostesses are very polite and very efficient.

I love this place. It's the best breakfast and lunch restaurant around. The meals are great, I love their skillets, but they also have a great cinnamon granola pancake. The service staff has always been very courteous and prompt, and the owner is always roaming the restaurant greeting guests and making sure everything is ok.

This place is great. Outstanding food, quick service at a reasonable price. We come every almost every weekend. My favorite is the Mexican skillet.

DELISH. And I went for lunch at 1:00 and it wasn't busy at all. I ordered the chicken breakfast quesadilla that had salsa, cheese, chicken, chiles and eggs all blissfully grilled and melted together. A side of sour cream and guac ,as well as ranch potatoes sealed the flavors for me. I also liked having my own carafe of iced tea. Yummy! I thought $8.00+ was fine for this entree and I really liked the variety of breakfast items that they have. Very enjoyable lunch out!

I love this place for breakfast!! Every other Sunday we get carry-out from this place and all of us are usually very satisfied. I have tried just about every breakfast menu item and, for the most part, am always pleased. I have also dined inside the restaurant a couple times and the staff was very friendly and attentive.

  • Neil C.

Overall it was ok but I want to go back to try other delicious looking menu items. I give 2 stars for the breakfast burrito I had. It was quite small and only average at best in flavor. The potatoes where pretty good. I had a couple bites from my wife's Parisian Benedict and that was very delicious. As for service, our server was nice but at one point left us alone for around 10 minutes the majority of that we had empty plates in front of us. The kitchen was very slow for a breakfast restaurant, about 20 minutes from the time the order was placed. Even though I only rate it 3 stars, I am looking forward to going back and trying something else on the menu and hopefully the service will be better as well.

If you live in Highlands Ranch, I'm sure you've wandered into the Egg and I on at least one occasion. I must say, for a chain, it's great! The sauces, dressings, soups and all are made in-house fresh.I have never had a dish I didn't enjoy and the staff is very accomodating. I would suggest trying the Mexican Skillet, the Texas Skillet or the Deluxe Breakfast sandwich for something savory. Alos, if you are a regular, which I am, you probably know the manager. He is so nice and cheery that he always makes my day when I see him. I can't wait till he stops by our table to say hello, which he does every time and ALWAYS thanks us for coming in to visit. I love that he loves what he does and where he works. He's very proud and he should be!
